E-learning has grown considerably in the government sector, to 38% of training hours from 27% last year. and self-paced learning (minus 4 points and minus 2 points, respectively) to vir- tual classrooms and online meetings (plus 6 points). >> E-learning tools and services are gener- ally being more widely used than ever. >> Mobile learning is gaining in popu- larity: 35 percent of all corporate respondents plan to purchase such tools or services in 2010, while only 18 percent currently use it. That's an incredible increase of 194 percent year-to-year. To illustrate these points and others, we've listed results from last year's survey along- side this year's results, where applicable. E-LEARNING BUDGETS Respondents who identified themselves as working in an enterprise/corporate setting plan to spend $1.46 million on e- learning initiatives in 2010, a whopping 30.4% increase from 2009. However, on the government side, e-learning-related purchases remain flat at $3.00 million. TRAINING METHODS Instructor-led classroom-based learning is falling in popularity among all corpo- rations but is slightly more common in government circles. In the enterprise survey, 6% fewer professionals report being involved in this kind of traditional training while government respondents are up 2%. Social learning is slightly down in both segments: 6% among corporate respon- dents and 1% among government respondents. However, e-learning or online learning has grown considerably in the government sector, from 27% last year to 38% this year. There is also a trend in government training away from blended learning Enterprise Government E-LEARNING DEPLOYMENTS E-learning is vital to today's learning organizations. Enterprises indicated that they spend up to 74% of their total train- ing hours in e-learning, online meetings or blended methods. Among government agencies, this figure reaches up to 49% in the same categories. Not surprisingly, the organizations that use e-learning, online meetings or blended methods less than 5% are on the decline: minus 8 points among enterprises and minus 10 points among government. 2009 TRAINING PRIORITIES Training priorities have shifted in 2010. On the corporate side, compliance remained No. 1, but customer service training jumped three levels to No. 2. Other categories that have risen in corpo- rate priority are product training (up to No. 4 from No. 6), professional/industry training (up to No. 5 from No. 8) and sales and marketing training (up to No. 7 from No. 9). Among government respondents, com- pliance fell to No. 2 with customer service rising four spots to take the top spot. Other big risers on the list: interpersonal skills (No. 5 from No. 9) and train-the- trainer (No. 6 from No. 10).
