The Federal Government Distance Learning Association (F.G.D.L.A.) distributed its annual awards at a special recep- tion during the 2011 Interactive Technologies Conference.

the University of Notre Dame extolled the virtues of "e-port- folios," which promise to provide the younger, computer generation both a "hybrid personal learning environment and a lifelong content management system." Other educational tracks included Gaming & Simulation,
Knowledge Management, Design, Training, Social Media, Mobile Computing, Blended Learning and Virtual Worlds.

speaker Michael Schutzler of Livemocha reveal some astound- ing statistics about the future of the Internet and, specifically, foreign language training that is available on the Internet. "There are 400 million people on the planet with college
degrees," he said, adding, however, that very few Americans are fluent in more than the English language, despite the incredible growth in global commerce. He also said that getting one-on-one and collaborative instruction via the Internet was one of the most efficient ways of studying a foreign language.
